Scazzafava, after dropping out of the NY23 race, endorses her liberal Democrat opponent. I suppose bird’s of a feather do flock together, eh? Notice the part about her “long-time labor activist husband” – which part of “not a Republican” do Newt Gingrich and the NRCC not understand? I don’t need social conservatism in a candidate – in fact I think the extremists driving the far right social aspects of the party are a huge problem for the survival of conservatism in the US. But someone in the Republican leadership better wake up to the fact that fiscal conservatives in the US are mad – and only going to get madder if their concerns continue to be ignored and belittled.
The problem, of course, is a repeat of the Perot phenomenon – fiscal conservatives and RINOs split the vote, and we get Clinton-like candidates winning races they would have otherwise lost. A huge problem, to be sure – but one that has to be dealt with if the Republican party is going to be a viable entity moving forward. How does Obama become a 2 term president? Split the “conservative” vote is how.
Update: From unofficial to official endorsement for her Democratic opponent against the 3rd party candidate.
