All men are equal, some are just more equal than others.
As thousands of Montreal adults wait anxiously to get their H1N1 flu shots next month, the top 200 donors to the Jewish General Hospital have already been inoculated, The Gazette has learned.
Hospital officials, however, denied that there’s a link between making a financial donation and getting fast-tracked for the flu shots. Rather, the 200 donors are all volunteers at the Jewish General in some capacity, spokesperson Karen Ohayon said.(good luck selling that one – ed)
Welcome to socialized medicine. In some utopian vision of universal health care fueled frenzy, the “average guy” gets screwed by inefficiency, bureaucratic malfeasance, and an overwhelming attitude of “screw you, we’re the state and we’ll decide what’s best for you”. Here we are, facing a possible pandemic of H1N1. you would think that we would be focusing our limited resources (remember that inefficiency and malfeasance thing?) on the groups most at risk. Instead we have open clinics where people stand in line for hours, only to get turned away when the vaccine runs out – while hockey players and big donors get preferential treatment.
Socialism creates just as big of a have/have not conflict as capitalism. The difference is that the “have not” group expands to cover just about everybody – and the “haves” shrink to a smaller and smaller percentage of extreme wealth – and these people go on to make the rules ensuring they remain in the “have” category.
